Search eBay’s Most Popular Active & Sold Listings

What is a watch count?

On eBay, an item’s watch count is a measure of its popularity.

Every eBay item (auction, Buy It Now, Store listing, Classified Ad, etc.) has an “Add to Watchlist” button on its listing page that users can click to keep tabs on the item. The item is then listed in their Watchlist on their My eBay console as a reminder for future reference.

eBay shoppers use the Watchlist to “bookmark” interesting items for a variety of reasons, including to:

  • Take time to consider a purchases
  • Research pricing trends to make an offer
  • Not “lose track” of a potential purchase
  • Follow an interesting, one-of-a-kind item to see if it sells or the price is reduced
  • Get an email from eBay if the price is lowered, it sells, or it will end soon

eBay sellers use the Watchlist feature to:

  • Explore items for sale in their niche
  • Monitor their market
  • Keep tabs on their competition (how much did this item ultimately sell for?)

The “watch count” is the total number of eBay users who have added a given item to their Watchlist. We say they are “watching” the item.

Try it out! Search for your favorite keyword or category to see the Most Watched items now:

and / or

Why should I care about an item’s watch count?

The watch count is an extremely important metric to use when evaluating popularity and market demand.

Seeing what items others have heavily (or lightly) flagged for watching can help both buyers and sellers alike make more informed decisions in their activities on eBay.

For Buyers:

  • Finding Exciting Items: The most-watched items are the most popular, best-selling, or rarest items for a given keyword or category. Everyone’s watching them for a reason!
  • Assessing Popularity: A high watch count indicates that an item is popular and may become scarce or increase in price. This insight can help buyers make timely purchasing decisions.
  • Evaluating Market Interest: Items with numerous watchers often indicate high demand, which can be crucial when considering the item’s future value or desirability.
  • Identifying Trends: Monitoring watch counts can help buyers stay informed about trending products or emerging market interests.

For Sellers:

  • Market Research: By studying the most-watched items in your niche, you can identify the most in-demand products. We also provide pricing, sales volume, and sales frequency data to help you identify new opportunities.
  • Marketing & Pricing Strategy: Understanding the watch count can help sellers determine optimal pricing. An item with lots of watchers but poor sales may need a pricing adjustment. Conversely, an item without watchers or sales may need additional marketing efforts.
Gauging the Importance of Listing Differences: Identifying similar listings with vastly different watch counts may identify a disparity worth investigating further, i.e. a more valuable feature? a more popular color? a more attractive listing? a better listing title?

Also, when combined with the current Bid Count, one can garnish some more insight into item popularity. For example, if an auction is ending soon and has only a few bids but a high watch count, there is significant potential for a flurry of last-minute bidding or sniping to occur in the closing moments.

It’s surprisingly fun to look at the most-watched items in different categories, asking yourself, “Why is this item so popular?”

Which eBay sites are searched from this site?

WatchCount.com searches a growing number of eBay sites, including eBay.com (US), eBay UK (Great Britain), eBay AU (Australia), eBay CA (Canada), eBay IE (Ireland), eBay DE (Germany), eBay FR (France), eBay ES (Spain), eBay IT (Italy), eBay NL (Netherlands), eBay BENL (Belgie), eBay BEFR (Belgique), eBay AT (Austria), eBay CH (Switzerland), and eBay SG (Singapore). You can choose your country of interest from the selector below the search form.

It can be fun to compare search results in similar categories from different countries!

Can I look up the watch count of a specific eBay item?

Yes! You can search for an individual eBay item number to see the watch count, quantity sold, sales velocity, and all the other data for that particular item.

What does “Total Sold” mean?

“Total Sold” means the total number of units of that item that have previously sold. Note that many popular items have been listed and accumulated sales for years.

What are eBay Daily Deals?

Each day, eBay offers a collection of specially arranged, heavily discounted items for sale on several of its sites. eBay Daily Deals (named differently per country) always offers merchandise with free shipping/postage, in Fixed-Price format, from hand-picked top eBay sellers. Because of the depth of the markdown, quantities are very limited, and the items often sellout within hours of going live.

I don’t care about watch counts. Can I still use this site to find popular items on eBay?

Absolutely! You can use WatchCount to search:

  • eBay’s Sold Item Prices
  • eBay’s Most Popular Items
  • eBay’s Auctions with the Most Bids
  • eBay’s Standard Search (Best Match)

Can I see items with the most bids?

Yes! We have a “Most Bids” search page for displaying auctions with the most bids for a given keyword and/or category search.

Search Auctions with the Most Bids here:

and / or

What are “No Bids Ending Soon deals”?

We have a search page dedicated to displaying auctions with no bids but are ending very soon – within minutes or hours. Such items may be overlooked by most eBay shoppers and could be available for last-minute bidding at low prices. Bargain hunters and eBay arbitragers/resellers may find this search appliance helpful.

How do I save my search?

You can save your search by Bookmarking / Adding to Favorites the URL after you run your search. For example, if I search for iPhones in the Cell Phone & Smartphones category, I can bookmark or save this URL to get back to it easily:

https://www.watchcount.com/live/iPhone/cell-phones-smartphones_9355/all?site=EBAY_US

I’m not getting the search results I expect (or I’m getting none at all).

Search Syntax Tips

  • You can search by Keyword only, Category only, or a combination of Keywords and a Category.
    • If you want to find the most popular books about Abraham Lincoln, after you enter ‘Abraham Lincoln‘ in the Keywords box, be sure to select “Books” as a Category. If you leave the Category box empty (or select “Coins and Paper Money”!), you may not get the specific results you seek.
and / or
  • Be as specific as possible with your keywords and category. You will get higher-quality, more meaningful results when you are more thoughtful with your searches.
    • For example, searching for Golf Club may yield drivers and irons, as well as parts for Club Car golf carts and memberships for golf clubs. However, adding Callaway to your keyword or changing the category to Sporting Goods will help tremendously.
and / or
  • Want only results that contain your keywords exactly as you enter them (same order, with nothing in between)?
    • For an exact match search, enclose the keywords in quotation marks ” ” to require them to appear together in that order.
    • For example, searching for “XBox 360” will only return the video game console and not “360 Ways to Hack an XBox.”
  • Want to omit results that contain certain keywords?
    • Use negative keywords by specifying a hyphen “-” to weed out undesirable terms.
  • Want to search for multiple keywords at one time (i.e. A or B or C)?
    • Use two or more values separated by comma(s), encased in parenthesis to indicate a “logical or.” Note there is no space after the comma.
  • Combine multiple search syntaxes to even better results.
    • For example, to search for ADD SEARCH EXAMPLE using quotes, an OR, and a negative

Search Tips

  • Looking for the watch count of a specific item? Try entering the Item Number in the Keywords box. (See “Can I look up the watch count of a specific eBay item?“.)
  • Find exactly the items you’re looking for (and only those items) with our powerful search filters.
    • For example, let’s say that you are looking for:
      • a black dress
      • with free shipping
      • for under $100
      • from one of your favorite sellers, bhfo
      • but you looked last week so you only want to see the new options
and / or

No search results at all?

  • For keyword searches: try using fewer words, or switch to a category-based search using an appropriately narrow subcategory.
  • For category-based searches: try a parent (“higher-up”) category, a sibling (“nearby/level”) subcategory, or a keyword search instead.
  • You must provide at least a keyword or a category. You will get more higher quality, more refined search results if you use more filters, but keyword or category is required.
  • Many users start with a keyword and then refine with a category when using WatchCount.com.
  • Ensure you have the correct eBay Site/Country selected for your search. You can change the country just below the search form.
